404
the answer for puzzle #93
The five clues
- A three-digit number often associated with 'not found.'
- A palindrome with only one distinct prime factor besides two.
- An HTTP status code.
- Means 'Not Found'.
- Equal to 4 × 101.
Backstory
404 = 2² · 101 and is a palindrome. Its number-theoretic virtues are entirely eclipsed by its role as the HTTP status code for 'Not Found' — perhaps the most-seen composite number in modern life. Introduced by Tim Berners-Lee in HTTP/1.0 (1996), from the CERN room number where the first web server lived (myth or fact — debated).
