8
the answer for puzzle #102
The five clues
- A single-digit multiple of four.
- The smallest cube greater than 1.
- The only Fibonacci number greater than one that is a perfect cube.
- The number of pawns each player begins a chess game with.
- Equal to 2³ = the sixth Fibonacci number.
Backstory
8 = 2³ = F₆ — a perfect cube and the sixth Fibonacci number. By Bugeaud–Mignotte–Siksek (2006), building on Cohn's 1964 squares result, the only nontrivial perfect powers among Fibonacci numbers are F₆ = 8 and F₁₂ = 144. So 8 is the unique Fibonacci cube greater than one.
