216
the answer for puzzle #51

The five clues

  1. A three-digit perfect cube.
  2. A three-digit cube of an even number.
  3. The cube of six — equal to 8·27 = 2³·3³.
  4. Sum of three consecutive cubes: 3³+4³+5³.
  5. Equal to three-fifths of a full circle measured in degrees.

Backstory

216 = 6³ = 3³ + 4³ + 5³ is the smallest cube that is a sum of three consecutive cubes. Plato invokes 216 obscurely in Republic Book VIII; the identification with 'Plato's number' remains disputed. Also 216 = 2³ · 3³ = (2·3)³.
