Backstory
32,768 = 2¹⁵. Signed 16-bit integers hold values in [−32,768, 32,767]; the asymmetry comes from two's complement having only one zero. Unsigned 16-bit goes 0 to 65,535 = 2¹⁶ − 1. This range powered the SNES and countless early game consoles.
