4096
the answer for puzzle #33
The five clues
- A four-digit perfect fourth power.
- A power of 2 — but also a power of another integer.
- A rare five-way power: 2ᵃ = 4ᵇ = 8ᶜ = 16ᵈ = 64ᵉ for small integer exponents.
- One of very few numbers that are simultaneously a cube and a fourth power.
- Beyond a power of two, it is also 16 cubed.
Backstory
4096 = 2¹² = 16³ = 8⁴ is simultaneously a perfect square, cube, and fourth power. Because 12 = 3 · 4, it lies in the intersection of cubes and fourth powers — the twelfth powers form this rare intersection.
