1000
the answer for puzzle #65
The five clues
- A four-digit multiple of one thousand.
- A perfect cube.
- Its cube root is under fifteen.
- Ten cubed.
- A kilo of anything (metric convention); also the Roman numeral M.
Backstory
1000 = 10³ = 2³ · 5³, the base of the metric prefix 'kilo-' and the first four-digit number. σ(1000) = 2340 and τ(1000) = 16; it sits between the perfect square 961 = 31² and the power 1024 = 2¹⁰. Every metric prefix from kilo up to yotta multiplies by 1000 at each step.
